As Tax Season Approaches, There’s Help At Hand:
United Way Of Hudson County Offers
Free Preparation of Tax Returns Until April 18th
The United Way of Hudson County will be offering free tax return preparation for moderate and low-income individuals every Thursday and Saturday from now until Monday, April 18, 2011, at 857 Bergen Avenue, Jersey City.
Appointments for tax preparation help must be scheduled by calling 201-434-2625. Volunteers speaking a variety of languages, including Polish, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, and Hindi, will be available to those needing assistance. Callers simply have to request the language they will need to help them quickly and efficiently facilitate the filling out of their tax forms. For a list of other United Way Tax prep sites, those interested should dial x211.Those needing help with this year’s taxes, however, should show up well prepared. Among the documentation which tax preparers will need are a copy of the previous year’s returns for both State and Federal taxes and social security cards or other official documents for both themselves and all dependents.
Documentation of all income is also needed, such as W-2 forms from an employer (or each employer, if there are more than one), unemployment compensation statements, 1099 forms for any interestor dividends earned or forms documenting proceeds from sales, among others.
